According to !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , after the Jaguars beat the Steelers and knocked them out of the playoffs, Jaguars rookie running back Leonard Fournette of was rear-ended by a car full of Steelers fans, totaling his “Mercedes-Maybach 6,” whatever that is.

Thankfully, the accident didn’t cause any injuries. But Fournette’s Mercedes-Maybach 6 — an exotic coupe with a sticker price of at least six figures — did not survive.

“I’ve got to get a whole new car,” Fournette said. “But at least nobody got hurt.”

As far as I know, the only currently available Mercedes-Maybach models are the S560 and S650 sedans, at least those are the only ones listed on !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , but what do I know?

What stood out to me about this, aside from the imaginary Maybach coupe that Fournette was supposedly driving, is that an NFL rookie would have such a fancy car, because I thought rookies supposedly got screwed in whatever the most recent NFL collective bargaining agreement was. Not that I actually pay attention to the math behind pro sports salaries, because I don’t give a shit about that stuff, and am not a professor of salarycaponomics.

But according to !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , he got a $17.9 million signing bonus. I suppose he can afford a Maybach with that. Maybe he even got a Mercedes-Maybach 6 coupe out of the deal.

maybe they ment maybach 62 but all the reports ive seen have been it was a 2017 model so i would think its probably the 650 sedan

USA Today was a content farm before the term really existed. The author presumably just Google’d “Mercedes-Maybach”, found the Vision Concept that they’ve been rolling around the show circuit, and made a (poor) assumption (as I proceed to make an assumption about an assumption). The author also seems to have taken some of Fournette’s tongue in cheek comments literally. Fournette was joking about the price of the replacement bumper cover before driving the car home.

As for footing the bill, the signing bonus certainly would offset the rookie salary, and I’m willing to bet he’s got a bit of sponsorship/advertisement income as well.

Fun side note: seems he signed a chunk of his rear bumper cover that broke away in the accident and gave it to a first-responder, and was signing autographs/posing for pictures with a child passenger from another involved vehicle.

Probably the 650, so he calls it “the 6,” and “Mercedes-Maybach” was a hyphenbrag. Then the writer/editor didn’t correct it because it sounds cool and facts are so passe.

Fournette’s rookie contract is fully guaranteed to the tune of 4 years, $27M. In the 2010. In 2010, the last year before the rookie wage scale, Trent Williams, who was also drafted 4th, got a six year, $60M contract with $37M guaranteed, though only a small signing bonus.

The real big change is at the very top. In 2010 the top pick, Sam Bradford, signed a six year, $78M contract with $50M guaranteed. Last year’s top pick, Myles Garret only got a 4-year, $30M contract (all guaranteed). The most recent QB to go first got 4-years, $28M (again all guaranteed).

I’m willing to bet it’s a Mercedes S600 Coupe, and someone googled what that is and they saw a Maybach in the results and just assumed it’s a Maybach.

Weird that this car is on base wheels, never seen those on a Maybach around here.
